Alpine Ski Club
Another great year of racing has now concluded for the Alpine Ski Club! We had several members this year who qualified for the NASTAR National Championships by being ranked in the top three in their age and gender category at any NASTAR resort. Congratulations to all who qualified!
Three members, Ty Lettelleir, Allen Parkes, and Stephanie Kritzer traveled to Park City, Utah, March 29th and 30th to compete for a National Title ranking. This year over 900 racers from 48 states attended the Nationals. On hand were racing greats Tommy Moe, Chad Fleischer, Erik Schlopy, A.J. Kitt, and Phil Mahre. They gave many great racing tips to all!
While temperatures were very warm and made for some slushy conditions during the competition, the weather was great for racing. Racers were divided into four groups based upon age. Races were held on the Three Kings race course (Ages 0-12 and 55-90+) or the Pay Day course (Ages 13-29 and 30-54). Ty, Allen, and Stephanie all raced on Pay Day. With the warm temperatures, the course quickly rutted and became somewhat challenging to complete. Allen and Ty were lucky enough to be among the first racers down the course (based upon their age) while Stephanie was one of the last. Racing two runs each day, the best handicap from each day was combined for a final handicap to determine national ranking. Ty and Allen both finished 15th in their respective age division in the recreational race class. Stephanie finished 2nd in her age division in the expert race class. Congratulations!
